Q: Is the 2008 Subaru Outback a low emissions vehicle?
Just curious about the emissions rating on new Outbacks. Is it average, low, or high?
A: Most of them are Ultra low emission vehicles, but the ones sold in California, New York, Connecticut, Maine, and all the other states that have adopted Californias Clean Air status, then they are PZEV, or Partial Zero Emission Vehicles, which is the cleanest you can get any engine out their to be.
Q: First oil change for 2008 Subaru Outback?
I've always thought that most cars should have the oil changed after the car is broken in at 1000 miles. The owners manual for my new Subaru recommends a first oil change at 3000 miles. Any ideas or input on this?
Any thoughtson using a synthetic over conventional oil when i do have the oil changed?
A: Read your owners manual and you will answer your own question.
Q: 2008 Subaru Outback a mans car or soccer Mom vehicle? There's a good deal in town on a 2008...?
A: I lean more towards the Forester but the Outbacks alright
Q: 2008 Subaru Outback vs. 2008 VW Passat?
Hey everyone, I'm back, again, with more questions about cars. This time about a Subie and a VW!
This is what I am thinking so far:
I live up north so there is a lot of snow. Both of these cars are nice in my opinion, but I am a teenager and would like to know views on the cool factor. Someone in my class said Subaru's are ugly but they seem better that an SUV. The Subie also has the whole hippie image, which I think fits me better than the VW's businessman image, but my soon to be Brother-in-law has an '02 and it is nice. I am leaning towards the Subaru because of the trunk space and rocking sunroof. I need AWD, if not mentioned above. Is the Subies interior nice? The Pics I see show that it is slanted towards the driver and I totally hate that. Which do you recommend?
Ugh... sorry if this is rushed: big snowstorm keeps turning off power. Would anyone know which would be best over the Outback or Impreza Hatchback? I would like to consider that also.
To the below person telling me to test drive: I'm only 13, XD. I want to buy off lease for my car in a few years. I want to get an idea now, you know? I just am not sure as to where the Outback stands on the "cool" factor, haha. I keep getting mixed feeling on these. I think that I will go for the Limited edition, I just hope I can afford one (Already have two grand in the bank and I will have a job in the summer)! Does anyone know if the optional performance gauge pack is worth the money because it looks pretty awesome! Thanks!
A: Subaru Interiors are average, but they really are a nice vehicle, overall.
They are very reliable and they hold their value amount the best in the industry.
Why not go test drive one?
I would never consider any VW. They are always in the bottom half in overall reliability and they are expensive to fix when the warranty is over.
Q: 2007 Subaru Outback or 2008 Toyota RAV 4? Both $21,999?
I'm buying a new car, prefer all wheel drive.
I'm looking at the 2007 outback 2.5i vs 2008 RAV4 base model (both automatic transmission).
which do u think is a better buy?
A: I think the Rav4 is a better buy. It has more room, good amount of cargo space, nice ride, good fuel economy, well built (edmunds.com says its a "solid construction") stability and traction control is standard (Subaru doesnt offer those systems on that trim of the outback) Those 2 systems are really beneficial when driving in the rain or snow and they really go with the AWD.
oh and the Rav4 can seat 7 while the Outback only seats up to 5
Q: whats the horsepower of a 2008 outback?
subaru outback 2008 horsepower is?
A: 2.5i 4-cyl - 170 hp
2.5i Turbo - 243 hp
3.0 6-cyl - 245 hp

Q: about a 2008 outback trailer harness install?
I did a to general question on the subaru outback, I have a 2008 outback, took it to uhaul they were able to put the hitch on but it took them an hour and a half to realize that they could not find the connector for the wiring harness. according to the instructions on the wire harness they should have been able to find the connector on the left side, a Draw tite Reese t-one connector. so they did not install tthe hitch harness. I did find a how to video on a 2007 outback, but the back end of the 2008 outback has changed so the video was useless. anyone out there with some better Ideas?? Thanks for all the help on my previous question, Don.
A: Here is the wiring information for the 2008 Subaru Outback:
Draw-Tite Part #118461
found it on http://www.drawtite.com for $40.50
Also, here is a link for the installation instructions for the wiring:

Hope this helps!
Q: 2008 Subaru Line-Up?
I'm 23 and a big fan of Subaru, especially the Subaru Outback sport utility wagon which I was able to bought last summer (a 99 limited model that is). I heard recently that Subaru was redesigning their Impreza and doing away with their mini wagons, so I had to check out their website. They indeed are redesigning their Impreza and doing away with their mini wagons, in place for a hatchback model, they also are doing away with the Legacy wagons and the Outback sudans and sport wagons. Now except for the new hatchback impreza models which will never be able to fully replace the mini wagon model which has become a staple for Subaru, I believe they're moving down the right path. So what do you think of the new 2008 Subarus and I haven't heard but does anybody know are they continuing the Foresters?
A: I like the new Impreza for the most part. More space, more refinement and less weight should work in its favour. I'm still not entirely hooked on the styling, although it looks incredibly better with a black mesh grill than with the stock egg-crate design.
The Forester is continuing as-is for 2008 but will be receiving a redesign in 2009. The current model was introduced in 2003. I think the current Forester is well-liked in general and doesn't necessarily need curvy or "trendy" styling, but I think a lot of owners would appreciate more rear-seat room.
I've heard many people lamenting the loss of the Legacy wagon in the US, but it is not being discontinued in Canada. The Legacy and Outback received a mid-life facelift for 2008 (which doesn't do much for me as I already liked the styling) and will likely be redesigned in 2010. I test-drove a 2007 Legacy recently, and what struck me the most was the top-notch steering--well-weighted and very precise.
Q: First oil change for 2008 Outback?
I've always thought that most cars should have the oil changed after the car is broken in at 1000 miles. The owners manual for my new Subaru recommends a first oil change at 3000 miles. Any ideas or input on this?
Any thoughts on using a synthetic over conventional oil when i do have the oil changed?
A: It used to be that the oil should be changed at 1,000 miles. But today, machining tolerances, metals, and engine building technologies are much better and that's why the first oil change is at 3,000. Remember when a 100,000 mile engine was rare? Now, it's when many engines get their first tune up. Synthetic oils are especially beneficial in cold climates. Either way, you should stick with the regular oil for the first 6 to 10,000 miles.
Q: Is it OK to drive at high revs in low gears often?
I've got a fairly mediocre 2008 Subaru Legacy Outback base model. Sometimes I like to drive in the range of 4000 to 6000 RPM before shifting. (It redlines at 6250 RPM.) So will it kill my engine if, say, I'm driving at 4000 RPM and I suddonly floor it up to 6k before shifting up?
A: I disagree with jmt90. High revs will not necessarily wreck your engine, but with higher revs comes higher stress. An engine that has been used to the peak of its abilities will not last as long as an engine that has normal moderate use.
Your gearbox will take it fine. Its a subaru for fu(k sake. Your clutch will go first, followed by your transfer box and diffs.
The odd bit of high rev, high speed action is fine. Don't expect you car to survive if you do it all the time.
Q: Will repairs/parts be expensive in future for a toyota matrix AWD that isn't made anymore and is rare to find?
Eventually, a 2006 toyota matrix awd I'm eyeing to buy will need some sort of repairs or parts replaced. The AWD version of the matrix is no longer made (after 2006), and rumor is that the production of all matrix's will cease in 2008. How much will this effect the availability/cost of parts and price of repair for this car in the future? Say 10 years from now? Will it be significantly more expensive than repairs/parts for a similar type of car still in production, say like a subaru outback ?
A: According to US Law, Toyota must provide repair parts and service to all vehicles sold in this Country. Since Toyota is such a huge auto-maker, there should be zero concerns.
Q: Women over 35 only, I'd like your opinion?
I'm a single man trying to improve my chances at finding a good girlfriend. I drive a 97 Subaru Outback wagon (which I'm perfectly happy with) but the last woman I dated seemed unimpressed by it. I've been saving for a while for a new car and can pay cash. How much more attractive would I be driving a 2008 Audi A4 sedan than the old station wagon? Can you suggest a car?
I've heard women talk when they thought no men could hear them. I've heard them talk about a man's build, what he wears and what he drives. Never heard a woman brag about a man's morals except her husband or father.
The car had a mechanical problem while she was with me. I used to work as a mechanic so I could fix it pretty easily but she seemed really put off by it.
A: Are some people really that shallow? Maybe she was reading into your embarrassment of the car breaking down? Who knows.... move on.
