Q: Where is the fuel filter in a 2005 Subaru Outback?
It's a 2.5L 4 cylinder. Is it an in-line filter or the traditional canister like filters?
A: On my 2004 WRX it is under the hood. Canister filter. Outback may be the same.
Q: how to turn off the alarming sound for seatbelts in Subaru Outback 2005?
the seatbelt is not necessary when sitting at the parking lot with the car turned on, yet the notify sound plays. How to turn it off for both seats, driver and passenger?
still not helping? please be more detailed, which wire?
A: Be careful in disconnecting this feature. If the seat belt engaged sensor is connected to your buzzer, it may also be connected to your SRS system. The vehicles SRS system will not work if your seat belts are not engaged to avoid killing you.
Just double check before you go cutting wires or you may never get your airbags when you need them.
Q: Are the 2003 Jeep Cherokees good SUVs? What about the 2005 Subaru Outback?
I hear the Jeeps have transmission and other mechanical problems. I am looking for a used 4x4 and am exploring options like the Jeep and even a 2005 Outback. I am looking for people's experience with either car. My goal is low miles and 15-18k in price.
Please give me your feedback on both options. Thx
A: I own a Subaru Outback and have nothing but good to say about Subaru. One thing I always like to point out to anyone shopping around... there is a diference between 4-wheel drive (as the american car companies make it) and All Wheel Drive. All-Wheel drive as Subaru has perfected it uses viscous couplings alowing transmission of power to each wheel smoothly and equally. American 4-Wheel drive in many cases if on slippery surfaces without limited slip diferentials will spin just one front and one back wheel (doesn't sound like 4-wheel drive does it?) All-Wheel drive sends equal power to each wheel spin or not. Each system is good and bad in its own right but the All-Wheel drive system of the Subaru seems much more "stable" in bad weather driving. I just like to give what I feel might be useful info, and hope this is useful. Oh, and by the way, a well maintained Subaru holds it resale value very well. :)
Q: how do your replace the headlight in a 2005 subaru outback?
A: Get yourself a Haynes or Chilton manual and all will be explained.
Q: how do I remove the rear door panels from a 2005 subaru outback?
A: There just snapped in, But have to remove the window junk first..
Q: brake lights out on 2005 Subaru Outback?
both brake lights went out at the same time which leads me to believe this is not a bulb problem (have not had time to pull apart the housings to check out the bulbs)...the brake light at the top of the hatch works fine and the fuses seem to check out...anyone have experience with this issue...thanks
A: it would have to be the bulbs then most likely, if it was the brake light switch all 3 would be out

Q: I am considering buying a 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5i...have read good reviews...any real world opinions?
A: Depending on what you are looking for, if you concerned mainly about safety then it is a good choice. If you are living in the states where you have lot of snow this is the car for you. If you want space and low maintainance, this shouldn't be your first choice.
Q: Does replacing piston rings resolve excessive oill consumption in an 05 Subaru Outback?
Subaru is trying to opt out of fixing our new 2005 Outback engine which is consuming 3plus quarts of oil between oil changes (done every 3000 miles) They have opted only to replace piston rings. WE want a complete engine overhaul. NO smoke, so why piston rings?
A: I'm a mechanic and I will say that there are a few things that can cause oil consumption. First, The obveious is oil leaks. Front seal or rear seal, or oil pan gasket. Check the PCV to see if it is cloged. If the PCV is cloged it will in crease pressure in the crank case and push oil out the seals. Another place oil can leak is through valve seals. I would say that the rings are probably not the problem and I'm supprised that they are not putting a complete engine in the car.

Q: Subaru Tire Help?????????
I have a 2005 Subaru Outback w/Turbo. Now I have All-Wheel Drive and I popped my back left tire. I called a tire place they said I need to replace all of the tires or it won't run right and it'll dammage the axle now if i replaced them all it'd be like 800 dollars so I think he is trying to jip me. Can someone help ?
A: The tire store you talked to is absolutely right.
This is why you have to replace all 4 tires.
Subaru's use a viscous coupling to transfer power from the front to the rear and vise-versa.
Here's a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscous_coupling_unit
The viscous coupling has fluid in it. This fluid heats up when a wheel is slipping to transfer power... This heating is fine and dandy under normal use. However, when you have uneven tire wear (which you would, just replacing one tire) the viscous coupling is always slipping and heating up. The fluid never has a chance to cool down and the coupling siezes together.
Here's another link http://syncro.org/VCTest.html
Replacing a viscous coupling costs a lot more than $800.
Try to sell the other two good tires to someone with a 2wd car.
Good Luck!
Q: Blown Head Gasket - Subaru Outback 2.3?
I've blown the Head Gasket of my Subaru Outback 2.3 back in March 2005. Last few days i've noticed when im backing the car out of the garage it does make a weird vibration & smoke (cloud like smoke) comes out of my exhaust. Then finally last night on my way driving to work noticed temp. gauge went up & up..So i pulled over & rang RACV. Could this mean prob. AGAIN w/ the head gasket???? Pls. help?
A: You must mean the 2.5 engine. Yes you probably have issues again, all 96-03 2.5's are highly prone to head gasket failure. The gaskets have been re-designed several times, you most likely did not get the the newest design in '05 either. The good news is the newest gaskets are working very well when installed properly. The bad (besides the failure) is that you may have damaged your engine by allowing it to run/overheat with failed gaskets.
Q: my check engine light is on & the cruise light is flashing. what does this mean?
i have a 2005 subaru outback sport
A: Take it to your dealer. They need to scan the On Board Diagnostic system or OBD to check what is wrong. That will give them the proper code to diagnose the problem. It should be covered under your factory warranty (3yrs or 36k miles). It shouldn't be anything serious, but for some reason this is very common with Subaru's.
Q: Stereo for 2005 Outback?
My stock Subaru 2.5 xt needs a new deck. I cannot find a suitable replacement. Appears that Subaru in its infinite wisdom has combined the A/C and Radio into a single unit and as of yet there is no way to install an aftermarket deck. What gives?
A: If you have auto AC - it is hard, but you can get this and it will fix all you sound needs: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=94
If you have manual AC - you need this:http://www.crutchfield.com/S-K81EXIJWK7E/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?I=120998901
It's possible to install new head unit with Auto AC, check www.legacygt.com and search for audio installations.
