Q: With the 1999 Subaru Outback LE, what are peoples opions and what should I watch out for with these cars?
The car I'm looking at is a 1999 Outback LE w/ 134 kmi. When I go and look at the car is there anything in particular that I should watch out for?
A: I own a 98 Outback and i love it! Since you are buying used i would make sure that you turn the wheel as far as it will go and make a very sharp turn. If you hear anything weird (other than the normal whine you get when the wheel it turned that far) or feel a clunking the car could have problems. When i got my car i had this problem and turned out i had a broken Motor mount, i guess this is common in vehicles that people take off road a lot. Costed me 700 dollars to get it all fixed. Other than that Subarus kick ass! I have had no other problems with my car and i have had it for 7 years now. It has 230k miles on it and still runs like a champ. I would suggest buying a Subaru to anyone.
Q: How do I set the clock on a 1999 Subaru Outback clock radio?
There is no button that says "clock" at all. There is a "set" button but it seems to only set the radio. I tried using the volume dial to change the numbers but usually there's another button you need to use at the same time.
A: try holding the display button in and hitting the tune buttons up or down one change the hour and the other change the min good luck
Q: Can you recommend a newborn car seat for a 1999 Subaru Outback station wagon?
We've tried installing 2 already, without much luck.
A: I don't know of a specific brand/model that would be the best fit. However it is my understanding that most car seats can fit any car. What is the problem? Perhaps you need to use a tightly rolled towel to install under the car seat. You may want to take the car seat to the fire house -- most have someone who is a certified installer, or a place like Babies-R-Us will have someone who can help. Just call first to make sure the correct person will be available. I know it can be frustrating trying to get a car seat strapped in properly :o)
Q: What is the best way to mount off-road lights on the front of a 1999 Subaru Outback?
Can they be mounted on the bumper?
Should I get bull bars?
Anyone know where outside of AUS to find bull bars?
A: either put on a bush bar in front or a roof rack up top
Q: How many miles can you put on a 1999 subaru outback before it starts to fall apart?
I'm looking at buying one with 170,000 miles on it.
A: Has it been maintained properly and how is the body? What is the price on it. Have it checked by a mechanic you trust.
I have seen Subarus with over 260,000 miles on them. They are great yet under rated cars.
Q: Does someone have an exploded view picture or drawing of a rear yoke assembly for 1999 subaru Outback?
A: I hope this helps:

Q: I have a 1999 subaru outback 30th anniv limited edition with good body fully loaded.. needs a new headgasket?
I want to sell it as is how much could I ask for it. Moving across country and don't want to take it with me
A: The price will pretty much instantly drop below $1000 with a "busted" engine.
More than likely someone that knows Subaru's will snatch it up replace the headgasket in an afternoon and turn around and make over 100% profit.
The work is not that hard, if you check your local Subaru forums or a national one like NASIOC, you more than likely will find someone that will come out and fix it for you on the cheap. If not, you might get $1500 at the most. So list it for slightly under $2k and hope you get at least $1500. Have fun on the move!
Q: 1999 Subaru Outback Help?
Hello,
I have a 1999 Subaru outback Legacy. . I am replacing the engine from a manual engine to an automatic engine and keeping the transmission manual. This is the 2.5l non-turbo engine. Is there something that i can buy to convert it( if i have to) also what is the difference in the two engines? Websites would help as well as any help. Has anyone ever done this and if there is any helpful information on this i would greatly appreciate it.
Alex
A: There is no difference in these two engines. Depending on how old your clutch is, replace that whole system. And any seals that may need to replaced on the replacement engine while it is out of your car. Timing belt, water pump, etc.
Good luck
Q: plz tell me about 1999 subaru outback reliablity, handleing and tyres?? Thankyou?
we r looking at buying an outback subaru 1999 manual amd would like to hear from anyone with any experiance with one or knoe of anyone with one.......
A: The 99 outback had a 2.5 litre dual overhead cam motor and is all wheel drive. The engines were very good, with 2 exceptions. They do need headgaskets when they reach around 100k miles and they do get a piston knock. The piston knock has never caused any failures, that I have seen, just a little noisey. I just sold my 97 with the same motor and 186k miles on it,original pistons but new headgaskets.
They ride nice and handle great on wet and snowy roads. The original tires were michelin xw4's. What a great tire for that car.Not unusual to get 80k miles out of them. It is imperitive to keep al 4 tires the same manufacture and outer diameter. In other words if your tires are half worn and you damage and need to replace one,you ned to replace all 4.The AWD is very sensitive to tire diameters being even 1/2 inch difference.
The 99 was a great car,and i wouldnt hesitate to buy one even if it had high mileage.Good luck with your search.
Q: How do i remove my stock stereo from my 1999 subaru legacy outback?
A: slide the ashtray out like your gonna clean it. there is 2 screws that that point straight up you need to remove. if there is a cup holder above the radio then there is screws i believe behind the part you press to open it. You may have to pull up the panel that goes around the shifter. Then you should be able to releas the panel around the radio and pocket.
Q: Where is the starter located on a 1999 subaru outback? is it hard to replace?
A: Easy job, The starter is on the right hand side (as you look at it with the bonnet open) of the engine bay at the back. Bolted on with two 14mm head bolts. The only other bolt is the 12mm that secures the battery lead to the starter.
Dont forget to disconect the battery before removing!
Q: 1999 Subaru outback trunk lever broken?
Can anyone pls help me with the procedure to open the trunk door from inside the car ? The lever was broken and the trunk door is locked. Is it possible to open or do I need to get a locksmith to break open ?
A: I gather theres a lever and that the handle snapped , try taking the panel off and then pulling the lever rod with a solid pair of long nose pliers or vice grips.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way you can easily pick up another handle or lever etc at a big do it yourself auto wreckers quite cheap.
Q: what could be the problem with my 1999 subaru legacy outback it keeps blowing fusible links?
A: You have a severe short to ground somewhere in the circuit.
Q: can i install a double din stereo in a 1999 Subaru outback?
