Q: Can losing the rear spoiler on my Subaru Outback cause engine problems?
The rear spoiler busted off the back of our 2006 Subaru Outback. Now we cannot get the car out of park, the check engine light is coming on and cruise control won't work. Is this all related?

A: If your rear spoiler had a break light in it then you may have an electrical short that MAY be causing other problems. Long shot but probable.

Q: How is the best way to see Subaru Outback in TN?
I am not good at sales and I really like this Subaru Outback Legacy wagon. It is smaller than a SUV but still has all wheel drive and good on gas. My problem is all the dealers are so far away that it is such a ordeal to get it there and wait that I am going to have to sell it. I just wondered if there was a better season to sell and how to advertisve. I really like this Subaru but the drive to dealers is to far away. Sandy I meant to asl sell a Subaru.

A: If I understand correctly, you are happy with your Outback but unhappy about the lack of any nearby convenient Subaru dealer and have, therefore, reluctantly decided to sell your Outback. That's so sad. First, I want to make sure that you understand that it isn't necessary to have a Subaru dealer perform the periodic maintenance described in your Warranty & Maintenance booklet, like oil changes, filter replacement, etc.. Such maintenance can be performed by any competent local mechanic or repair shop. Just be sure that all of the work performed is documented and that you save that documentation. You only need to take your Outback to a Subaru dealer when you experience a problem which would be covered by a Subaru warranty. I would imagine that now would be the best time to sell a Subaru in Tennessee. This is the season when many people start wishing they owned a vehicle with all-wheel drive, like a Subaru. I would try to get an idea of your Outback's value using tools like http://www.edmunds.com and http://www.kbb.com . Then I'd advertise it in my local paper's classifieds and in any local free classifieds paper like the Thrifty Nickel.

Q: Can i change all wheel drive in my subaru outback?
With nowadays gas prices, i find it very irritating to drive an all wheel drive vehicle during the summer. I currently own a Subaru Outback Legacy 97 and for the most part i love it. However it seems kinda ridiculous to drive it in all wheel drive all the time. Is there any way that i could modify my car so that i could switch from AWD to Front or Back wheel drive? I want to save as much gas as i can lol. thanks!

A: you already get great milage why get more.and no you cant do it.

Q: Can I install seats in the trunk of a 1997 subaru outback?
I know some subaru outbacks have seats in the trunk, I am wondering if you can install seats in the trunk of a subaru outback if the car does not have seats in the trunk.

A: You sure can, you can buy the parts needed to latch everything down from the dealer or ideally pull them from another Outback. That way you can just transfer all the parts needed.

Q: What causes my subaru outback's transmission to "slip/stutter"?
I recently bought a subaru legacy outback 1995. It "slips" sometimes, mostly when the gear is just shifted from P to D or R and it kind of stops slipping when you hit the gas. it does not seem to "slip" when on the road. by "slip" i mean it feels like the car is "stuttering".

A: I would say you are having internal transmission problems. Maybe you should consider having the transmission fluid drained and replaced. While you are at that you may also want to consider changing the transmission filter as well. Then road test vehicle and see if that makes a difference. If this doesn't help then you may need to have your automatic transmission bands adjusted. But do this as soon as possible if you decide to have it done. Because the longer the transmission is allowed to slip/stutter for too long you may ruin the entire transmission itself there by causing you to have to buy a new transmission which will not be cheap by any means what so ever. Some other things you can consider would be the transmission linkage itself... This may need either adjustment or lubracation as well. Something else you can try is the transmission modulator... When these act up the transmission will not shift correctly either. Another thing would be the torque converter... This can cause all kinds of trouble if it is going bad . Check your transmission lines as well... You may just have a loose fitting y=that needs tightening. You may also have a sensor or relay that is goiong bad as well. Hope this helps you .

Q: Subaru Outback:How do i disable the seat belt alarm on my 2007 model, please?
There is an annyoing alarm that goes off on the subaru outback before you put your seatbelt on- or before your passenger puts his/hers on ... this goes off even if you take less than 5 seconds to put it on- and it goes off even if you are driving alone. I always wear my seatbelt and I have no quarrel with someone advising everyone to do so- however this is a ridiculous and annoying thing that does not help anyone and I need to find a way to turn this off ... the Subaru technicians refuse to help- saying they "can do nothing about it"- but this is not true- they are just not allowed to. There is someone who knows how to do this- PLEASE HELP. Note: This question has been posted before by someone else, however no helping answers have been given ...

A: If you always wear your seat belts which is a good thing, get into the habit of putting them on before you start the car. The chime is a safety reminder. I used to move these cars around at the Subaru dealer where I worked an I understand how you feel.

Q: How to disable the seatbelt alarm on my 2007 Subaru Outback?
There is an annyoing alarm that goes off on the subaru outback before you put your seatbelt on- or before your passenger puts his/hers on. This must stop. Note: This question has been posted before by someone else, however no helping answers have been given ... Please only answer the question, do not post stupid suggestions like "Good Deeds" who has the assinine suggestion that you get into the habit of putting them on before you start the car. I always wear mine when driving and it is the law here in CA, but I DO SIT IN THE CAR sometimes and do not need that constant nagging for gosh sakes... If you can not answer the ACTUAL question, please do not post. Also, the old 2006 method of 20 in 30 seconds does NOT work.

A: See if there's a plug under your seat. If so, just unplug it. This generally works. If there's more than one harness, it'll just involve a bit of trial and error, although you should be able to follow the wires. You'll probably have to unbolt the seat to do this, unless you just have some amazing dexterity.

Q: Shaking when applying brake for my subaru outback?
I recently replaced new brakes and new rotors (ceramic brake pads) for all four wheels of my 99 subaru legacy outback. However, when I drove on the Interstate (over 55-70 mph), if I applied the brakes, the car will start to shake. The mechanic then checked again to see if the rotors are defected; but it was not. I am wondering what causes the shaking. Sometimes the steering wheel also shakes a bit. This occurred mostly in higher speed over 55 mph. The local 25 mph traffic did not seemed to have this.

A: try a set of semi-metallic pads. the ceramics may be too harsh for the rotors. improper torque of the wheels and rust buildup under the old rotor hats will both cause brake warpage.

98 subaru outback limited I am talking about the 'sunroof' that slides backwards and is above the backseat, not the one that pops up over the front seats.

Q: how do you install thermostat on 1998 subaru outback?
hey guys. i have a 1998 subaru outback and i am replacing the radiator hoses and the thermostat. Just wondering if anybody knows how to actually replace the thermostat and how tight i should tighten the clamps to the hoses.. thanks

A: The thermostat housing is located on the bottom of the water pump. Remove the two retaining bolts, remove the thermostat housing to expose the thermostat. Hose clamps tightened until firmly snug, but not too much in order to avoid cutting into the hose.

A: I was sent here from council, a place far away and I came here for one reason. To attack questions and keep coming. Not to ask but just to give. Not to want but just to send, send the power of the Rudy down everybody’s throats at Yahoo Answers until they become sick of it. Well you’re going to get sick of it, Sean. Q: '97 Subaru Outback Needs Major Repairs: Is it Worth It?
I have a '97 Subaru Outback with 136,000 miles on it that has a cracked radiator, bad starter, and a blown head gasket. Repairs have been estimated at $2500+. Is it worth it to get it fixed?

I've got a '98 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon, that has about 167K miles on it... how many miles can one usually get out of them if they're properly maintained?

Q: What is the difference between a Subaru Outback and Legacy?
I am buying a car on eBay that I thought was an "Outback" but now I find out it is an "Outback Legacy". What is the difference?

A: An Outback is a Legacy. Most people refer to it as Outback only and until 2005 Subaru labeled it the Legacy Outback. Some dealers still use that label. An Outback will have a raised suspension and more options than the Legacy. That is your biggest difference. Look for the All Weather Package or Audio package if the car is a 2003 or newer. I can not tell you how many customers have this question I have had to answer before. Former Subaru Sales Manager
