Q: Convertible car seat suggestions for 1999 Subaru Legacy SUS?
I'm looking into a convertible car seat for our daughter. We drive a 1999 Subaru Legacy SUS (sedan). Is there anyone out there with this car that can recommend a convertible car seat? Really looking for comfort (daughter's, not mine haha...), safety rating, and fit. I've heard good things about Britax, but open to brand. Also open to price, but would prefer to spend no more than $300 USD. Thanks!

Q: what is the difference between a 1999 subaru legacy GT engine and and impreza RS engine?
i was just wondering because i wanted to do some performance mods to my legacy but they just don't seem to make parts for it but as far as pictures go the engines between a legacy and impreza look incredibly similar (i know pictures aren't the most accurate thing though) so if anyone knows any difference or knows what i should do to gain horsepower out of my legacy just let me know. what parts should i buy for my legacy and where can i find them?

A: a lot

Q: 1999 subaru legacy w/powerwindows How do you remove the front driver side door panel?
Power window button broke off and I need to get behind the door panel

A: Since Subaru's are garbage and ugly as hell, when you drop them off at the junkyard you don't have to worry about removing the door panels. They'll just crush them.

Q: How do you manually pop the hood of a 1999 subaru legacy?
the lever below and to the left of the steering column doesn't work

A: you need a 5 lb sledge and a pry bar.

Q: How much horsepower does a 1999 subaru legacy have?

A: Horsepower: 165 horsepower, 162 Ft lbs torque 12 volt/85 amp altarnator, 490 CCA battery

Q: 1999 Subaru Legacy Spark Plugs?
I have been trying to change the spark plugs for my 1999 legacy. But I couldn't find them. Someone eventually told me that they are deep inside the vehicle and that I'd need a special tool to get them out. Right now all I have is a deep-socket attachment, but that's only like 1 1/2 inches long. Any advice?

A: The plugs are located two on either side of the flat four engine. Your best move would be to buy a shop manual for it. You sound like a DIY type and it would pay for itself in the long run.

Q: My 1999 Subaru Legacy has intermittent starting problems?
It wont start sometimes but if I keep trying it will eventually, I replaced the battery but still the same. I think it's the starter because of the symptoms, am I right in thinking a bad spot on the comutator that wont allow the current to conduct and after I try a few starts it rotates to a clean part of the comutator and then starts, any clues?

A: The solenoid contacts in the starter will arc, causing this problem. So yes, the starter must be repaired or replaced. Check the yellow pages in your area for a motor rebuild shop if you do the work on your own car. Be sure to have a look at a great Subie owners website: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3 Lots of helpful folks

Q: does a 1999 subaru legacy trans have a throttle pressure adj?
it has a harsh down shift on an up hill pull unless you feather the throttle and the occasional harh down shift on the flat.

A: Sorry i don't know the answer to your question. But I found this forum that mite have an answer for you by people that specialize in Legacy's. It's name is Subaru Legacy International. I will leave you a link so you can check it out. http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/index.php

Q: I need a rear wiper motor for a 1999 subaru legacy wagon. Can it be repaired or should it be replaced?

A: I have a friend in the auto salvage business. Wiper motors are not that expensive on most cars. You usually can find one from another vehicle and it will cost a great deal less in a lot of cases. The labor to put it in at a shop is usually the biggest cost deterrent. Hope this is of some help. I have repaired my vehicles many times over the years by 'pilfering' parts from salvage yards. Sometimes though you have to go to a dealer for some parts. Yellow pages have listings under the auto section sub-classed as used parts.

Q: 1999 Subaru legacy has continuous shift lock issues. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
When depressing the brake peddle, the shift lock mechanism is locked and can't be moved out fo park. I have to manually use the override button (following instructions in the manual). Also, brake lights and horn do not work whenever this happens. Also, the fuse is blown and I replace them and this helps for a day or two. I've already replaced the horn, stoplight switch and many fuses. I think the problem is either the solenoid shift selector or the park position switch. My mechanic is baffled and has not solved the problem. Any suggestions?

A: "Any suggestions?" Don't ever buy another Subaru. Get more for your money elsewhere.

Q: Transmission Problem? 1999 Subaru Legacy 30th anniversary edition?
I have a 1999 Subaru Legacy and live in upstate NY. I bought the car used, last year with 60k miles on it now the car has about 75,000 miles on it. The car is an automatic, and sometimes I notice when I apply pressure to the gas (I do it on purpose to get the tranny to upshift) the response to shift is slow and when the gear shifts my car lurches. I also must mention I notice this the most when climbing hills or when the car is still cold, but it has happen at other times. About 2 months ago my mechanic noticed that my tranny fluid filter was rusted out and he drained the tranny and replaced the fluid, and the filter. Please tell me I don't need a new transmission!!!

A: If the tranny filter was rusted on that tells that the previous owner did not change the fluid which should of been done every 30,000 miles. Since the tranny fluid has been replaced and the problem persists see if you can have it rebuilt or get one from a wrecker. Sorry but that's what it sounds like

Q: Installing CD-receiver in 1999 Subaru Legacy!?
I have a 1999 Subaru Legacy 4dr sedan. I bought an installation kit, wires, and Kenwood CD-receiver. I don't know how to pull out old stereo and install new CD-receiver. I have no knowledge in installing audio in a car. Please help me! no more comments on this question?

A: well most stock stereos are bolted down so your going to have to take the plastic panel around the stereo of some are just slide on but have locks on them so try taking off any screws that you see around the stereo then if you dont see any pull off the plastic panel these are usually being held by push pins so do it carefull then just unscrew the screws areound the stereo and pull out good luck

A: Its in the tank. You can get to the wires to test them via an access hole under the rear seat (drivers side on a right hand drive car).
