Q: Wheel bearing replacement for a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS?
I took my Subaru to Kal Tire to get it looked at recently and they told me that my rear right wheel bearing needs to be replaced, and that it would cost me about $800! (Canadian)Should it cost this much? I know fixing Subaru's are expensive, but this seems like it's too much! How hard is it to do yourself? Is my car safe to drive for a while, or should I get it fixed immediatley? Any info would be appreciated!
A: the rear bearing is either a sealed unit, which would be up to $200 because it also will have an abs ring, and also it's all wheel drive.
you MIGHT be able to replace just the bearing itself from the hub assembly, but a machine shop will have to do this for you.
the labor will be about 1.5 hours. $800 is not reasonable, unless your price is from the dealership, then expect to pay premium anyway.
if you don't replace the bearing, eventually it will loosen up enough to where the rollers are overheated, out of tolerance, and will jam themselves up, and overheat the hub, and worst case the hub assembly falls off (because it'll seize up), and since you have all wheel drive expect potential problems with the other axles because the subaru system must run in unison.
also, the weight of that area of the car rides on the bearing(s).
Q: Can I add a turbo to my 1998 Subaru Impreza RS?
Is it possible? Is there room? How hard and expensive would it be to do?
A: ofcourse
Q: How much will someone pay me for my 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS lots of mods bro, seat belts, 4 tires (aligned)?
Bro this car is unreal. Got me my first kill, got me my first 0-60 in 15 seconds guy, this thing got me my first burnout.
But, its time to sell this baby, I'm willing to sell for the best offer, so let me know! Guyyyy this things unreal. Help a brother out, i need the money for tuition so that they don't kick me out of school!
A: Troll?
Mods generally reduce the value of a car, as does hard use.
0-60 in 15 seconds? Wow, that's.... slow. Way slower than stock.
I think trolls are funny.
Q: Which Engine Oil is good for my 1998 Subaru Impreza GF1?
After I imported the Impreza GF1 from Japan, it was very fast and was performing optimally. I gave the car to a friend and on return, the cars capability to pick up speed was so compromised, and it was struggling to pick up speed from one gear to the next.
I changed the engine oil, fuel filter, oil filter, plugs, battery, air filter with new subaru spares but the situation did not change so much. Please help me understand which engine oil is good for my car. Currently, i'm using Caltex - Formula (i havent crammed the grade).
How can I boost the cars ability to pick up speed??
Thanks for yahoo answers...
A: Check your exhaust system---my Impreza slowed to a crawl when I got a leak I didn't know about in the exhaust. Got it fixed----speed was back---oohhh, and ----dump the friend.
Q: how do you change the fuel pump in a 1998 subaru impreza?
A: First you need to pull out the back seat and everything from in your trunk. At the back of your trunk there are 2 port hole things. The one that is shaped like an oval is the fuel pump. Take off the cover replace the fuel pump and put the car back togather. DO NOT DROP YOUR TANK! That is a job that will take many hours since you have to basically take apart the rear end
Q: would a subaru outback 97-01 hood ( hood scoop and vents) fit a 1998 subaru impreza L model?
A: Yes. It will.
Q: i have a 1998 subaru impreza wrx import. ive just bought a dump valve but dont know how to fit it, help!!?
i bought this from ebay with the fitting kit included but im not sure how to connect it. can anyone help or even send me some pics. please!!
A: Google Subaru forums. Very in depth and I've used it for my 99 model. I also would suggest that you look online for the manufacturer and contact them.
To fit It is very easy to do and there are only 2 bolts. It's positioned at the top front and center of the engine as you look at whilst standing in front of your car. You will really do better trying to find a diagram than ask here.
Another idea is to go to a dealer and ask for advice. Voted best customer service in the county Subaru shouldn't mind giving you 2 minutes of their time to point out the fitting point for you.

Q: do you have to buy a deck install kit if installing a deck in a 1998 subaru impreza?
A: No.
Q: i just bought a car a 1998 Subaru impreza?
the rims on it are chrome and they are a bit scratched how can i fix that could i respray them?
and is there any way i can fix stone chip the cars color is silver
A: yeah if you're looking for a cheap solution, you can repaint the wheels with chrome paint or try a scratch remover on them. You can try a scratch remover on your car or touch up paint, but touch up paint will always look different from the rest of the car because of the effects of heat on the car's paint. Subaru touch up paint can be ordered from the dealer and costs $3.70 or so (for me), with next-day pickup. silver is somewhat difficult to fix with regular spray paint - i tried that on another car. You can also get an estimate or two from a detailer or body shop. Detailers are usually cheaper.
Q: 1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport?
im selling my 1998 Impreza Outback. it has the manual trans. i am selling it because i was on a raod trip and it kept popping out of 5th gear. (syncro's maybe?) then the speedometer and all the other gauges but the RPM tack stopped working. wtf?! what could it be and how much do you think it would cost to fix? it only has 104k on it. if its cheap enough to fix i will keep it. so what do you think?
5th gear popping out and the other problems all happend the same day.
A: I'd get it fixed, suby's run forever if they're well maintained. I've got a 96 legacy outback wagon, with 110,000 miles and it runs great...
If I were you I'd get it fixed, its worth the peace of mind knowing you have a good solid reliable AWD vehicle.
Q: can you put a subaru impreza 1998 on gas?
i have one that i am thinking of having converted but i do not know how well it will run after and if it will damage the engine.
A: What, like PROPANE gas you mean? If so, then yes, you can. They make conversion kits for both carb cars and MPFI cars. Just follow the directions. And DON'T forget to use the teflon tape where the directions say to.
Q: where is the fuel pump located on a 1998 Subaru impreza rs?
A: It is located in the tank on the passenger side.There are 2 access panels under rear cargo floor,just behind rear seat to get to pump and sending units.
Q: I'm interested in buying a used 1998 subaru impreza over 100, 000 miles, can anyone tell me if it's worth it?
A: they are pretty bombproof but when they do go wrong its time to be really nice to your bank manager!
Q: My 1998 Subaru Impreza Wagon has gone down in performance/strength. What might be the problem?? Thanks 2 all!?
- It has some problems switching gears effectively;
- It consumes a lot of fuel;
- The ignition sound is harsh and loud;
- Idling has gone a bit up;
A: As said best place to try is the Subaru forums.
But when was your last service,If its due then it might be a simple as that.When i got my R33 it hadnt been serviced for a good while and performance was great but a little slow.
After a good service just decent oils, plugs, filters inc fuel filter,the idling dropped and perfomance was a lot smoother and a noticable difference.
Is your an auto even changing the engine oil and plugs will ,make a difference in the smooth change.If you can also check the gear box oil maybe a new oil and filter service is due there also.
As said as iam sure you know dont use cheap oils
