Q: What is the Octane rating for a 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport (E22J) non turbo in the owner's manual?
I lost my car owner's manual and would like to know the manufacturer's recommendation on the minium octane rating for 1997 Subaru Impreza 2.2 L Non turbo
A: The EJ22 (it's not E22J) is designed to run on 87 pump octane (R+M/2, as the stickers on the pumps indicate here in the USA). Running a higher octane is not only an obvious extra expense, but can actually CAUSE extra carbon buildup IF it's used in an engine that was designed to use lower octane. I've got a '97 Impreza with the EJ22 with 203,000 miles on it currently. We bought it new and have used nothing but 87 octane. I've never had internal engine work done on it and it's still getting 30MPG.
Q: Could a 1997 Subaru Impreza handle a 1000w amp with subs?
Im thinking about getting a 1000w system for my 1997 subaru impreza but i was wondering if the car could handle it.
A: likely yes, no reason why not you may need a bigger alternator I recommend pintex alternators about 100.00 dollars
Q: can a 1997 subaru impreza be turbocharged?

What problems could cost me if I buy this car?
A: Engine and tranny are very strong on those and 81,000 miles is not that much at all on a Subaru but is needs to have been maintained properly so make sure you see proof of all maintenance. S far as what different things can cost you, it will depend on what you can find at the time. Subaru's from about 94 on are like Lego's. very interchangeable. A tranny from 94 to about 00 WRX will bolt right on. Should be fairly easy to find for pretty cheap if yours breaks. Engines are the same way. You may need re tuning but short blocks for 94 to current model WRX's will bolt right in too so that should be easy to find. All in all, I wouldn't be to worried. With low miles, that car should give you years of fun.

Q: 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport rear hatch doesn't work?
The problem started on Sunday when we found out that the rear hatch didn't lock. We kept trying and discovered that the rear hatch doesn't lock or unlock from the inside door locks or when using the remote. The only way to lock it is to manually put in the key. When I put my ear up to it, there is no noise when locking or unlocking, so is the actuactor dead? What exactly is the problem and how can I fix it?
A: The locking mechanism is a tiny solenoid. The solenoid might be defective and can be easily replaced. If you have any mechanical skills, you could remove the interior trim around the rear hatch and replace the solenoid yourself. Or you just might get lucky and wipe the actuating mechanism clean and spray a little WD-40 on it and everything would work out fine.
Q: Subaru Impreza 1997 Air Intake Filter Question.?
I have a 1997 Subaru Impreza L Sedan. I was wondering if it would be safe first off and if it would make any difference if I took the cover off the air filter box off the Air intake.
A: As long as you have the air filter and you don't let dirty get into the engine, it would OK.
Those covers are there for 2 function (1) suck in cold air instead of warm engine bay air (2) noise restriction.
Good Luck...
Q: 1997 Subaru Impreza Fuel Filter Location?
Where would the fuel filter be on a 1997 Subaru Impreza? I think it may be clogged because when I start my engine it idles for a few seconds and dies...
A: Under hood, back right side of the engine bay. its mounted on the right strut tower. A clogged fuel filter might not be the cause of your your engine problems though. But its always good routine maintenance to do this. So just change it anyways. Your supposed to change the fuel filter every 30,000 miles on your car according to the dealership.

Q: 1997 subaru impreza estate 2.0 sport where can i buy a exhaust system for it.?

Q: Subaru 1997 impreza rear differential chatters on turns.?
Has anyone have this happen?
A: OMG! What long answers to a short question.
Unfortunately, they are all wrong. 1997 Subaru rear diffs don't break. This is what it is...either you just put 2 new tires on either the front or back....and they don't match the other 2.... or you have the AT Temp light flashing on the dash when you start the car.....which is telling you that you have a bad rear speed sensor on the back of the tranny.
Your tranny is binding. It feels like its coming from the rear diff when you turn, because those wheels can't move at different speeds when you turn. Have you ever had a 4WD truck in 4X4 mode...it binds when you turn tight. This is what is happening. There are front and rear speed sensors that control the rear drive part of the tranny. The tranny applies and releases clutches in the back of the tranny that are mounted in a sun gear.
You could have a bad apply solenoid located in the back of the tranny also.
Check your tires first...they must ALL MATCH!! If they do, take it to a Subaru mechanic and have them run the other tests.
Q: Trouble code PO103 1997 Subaru Impreza?
I have a 97 Subaru Impreza with the 2.2L and automatic tranny, it has a little over 100K miles, recently it started running rough and a day or 2 after that it would run for about 15 seconds after starting it up and it would die. My step-father owns a wrecking yard and one of his employees has a engine code reader, he did a scan of the engine and it gave him error code 103, we called the subaru dealership in town and they said it was something to do with the MAF sensor, after searching on the internet it says this code is "Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit High Input", what would cause this? We unplugged it and it runs now but it wants to stall when it is cold, it runs rich and gets about 10MPG, we cleaned the sensor and that didnt help much, and we cant hear any vaccum leaks, we've tried other sensors on the motor and this hasnt helped either. Any input would be appreciated thank you.
A: So if you've checked the wiring from the MAF to the computer and you don't want to try replacing the MAF, then reconnect it and keep driving. What's your complaint with the way the car runs apart from the check engine light due to the MAF?? If the car drove ok, I'd just keep driving it or replace the MAF if you want to. Make sure the air intake ductwork to the intake manifold is tight so that all the air intake has to go through the MAF. Amateras above seems to know what she or he is talking about. You could try cleaning the MAF again with the CRC product below. You could also pay the Sabaru dealer for a diagnostic fee to see what the factory trained "experts" say is wrong.
Q: 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback?
Has anyone ever made a custom intake by drilling into the front right grill on the hood or through the hood scoop?
A: DO IT! Murder it out!! lol! (rob & big if you were unaware)
Q: How do I find the cheapest possible cd player for my 1997 Subaru Impreza?
I am for all intents and purposes too poor to be spending money on a CD player, but pretty much anything would be better than the discman I have hooked up via my tape deck which stops and makes robot noises in the heat! I figure a factory CD player would be cheap, particularly from these EBay motor parts stores, but I have no frame of reference to know if factory players tend to fit from one car to another, or what installation equipment I will need (I'm hoping to install it myself with on-line information). Even if I do find a really cheap aftermarket player, I still don't know what the critical dimensions and parts are to know if it will work. Can anybody give me an idea of how to orient myself to this process? Thanks!!
