Q: How can you retrofit a 2006 Subaru Forester with the aux-in connection from a 2007 Subaru Forester?
I have a 2006 model, and would like to purchase the 2007 aux-in connection that replaces the ash tray. No problem, there. But how do I connect this behind the dash to the radio, or would I need to replace the radio with the one that comes in the 2007? Thank you.

A: Hi... I don't know how much would it cost... but wouldn't it be preferable to do that in a certified Subaru office! Changing anything in the car could cost you the Warranty!!! At least, question it to an official Subaru office! Have a nice day

Q: What's the best exhaust for a 2007 Subaru Forester XT?

A: INJEN SES1206RS Great sound and Injen is carb-legal.

Q: My new 2007 Subaru forester had problem so I had car serviced 4times for same problem.?
Only 6weeks old car. I had rough riding and tapping noise underneath of body from the moment of delevery . I had been service four times, Fornt drive shafts had to be swaft side to side then removed and replaced . But still have rough riding and tapping noise at certain RPM. But dealer denied my claim. I lodged complain to fair trading. and they said to me I will have in dependent mechanic. If independent mechanic verify the problem, can I ask dealer to give me replacement? Also Is it good idea to get car check report from other independent mechanic like NRMA to support my claim before the one from fair trading?

A: First you may have a Lemon and need to contact a Lemon Law firm for some help. There is a book called "Identifying a Lemon" that can help you when preparing your case for a Lemon Law claim. I read the book and it really helped me with my lemon car. I got it free from lemonprotection.com, I had to pay the PH but it was worth it. Good Luck and GOD Bless

Q: Does the 2007 Subaru Forester have a jack to plug an Ipod into?

A: The 2.5x doesnt unless you upgrade to the premium package. The 2.5xt and 2.5 LL Bean have the jack standardin them. The radios also play MP3 and WMA.

Q: why 2007 subaru forester 2.5 xt requires 95 ron unleaded fuel while 2009 model w/same specs. go for 92 ron?
subaru forester 2.5xt burns only 95 (ron) octane unleaded fuel while new 2009 with same specifications (engine, etc) now only requires 92 (ron) octane. Why is that so? What's the difference that came about the octane of fuel?

A: You will find that the computer module for running the engine is the difference ..from memory you can take you car back to subaru and they can change the setting with a hand held diagnostic tuneing set..i have used this same device to alter the fuel select mode on holden barinas

Q: I have a 2007 Subaru Forester. Keep smelling coolant but see no leak anywhere. Temp is fine. Any suggestions?
Took it to the dealer they couldn't find anything wrong. Said it was the radiator cap but I still smell it. Temp has been fine.

A: I had a similar problem with a 96 commodore, turned out that there was a slight leak under pressure from a rear welch plug, which leaked onto the exhaust which caused the coolant burning smell you described. I sold the car. Your subie should be perfect, I can't think of why a new car would make those smells, but my sense tells me to look along the car body above the exhaust and see if you can see a path dropping on to exhaust. Did they replace the radiator cap with a new one, (pressure relief), there may have been an overflow which runs down to the exhaust.. Damn cars...good luck

Q: 2007 Subaru Forester that rides rough and shimmies on the road.?
I just bought a brand new car and it's been HELL. First they balanced the tires. THen they let air out of the tires (they were overfilled!) but it still rides very rough and shimmies a bit at high speeds. I feel every bump on the road even driving 20 miles an hour. Any suggestions as I go back to the dealership for the THIRD time???!!!

A: Did you drive this particular car when first test drove before you bought it? These types of problems were always the hardest for us to diagnose. I would suggest go back the the service department if the dealer and go for a test drive with a technician. Drive it the same way and over the same route were these problems occur. That is the best way to get to the bottom of this. I would also have them check the balancing again and check the alignment of all 4 wheels since it is an AWD. Have them check the tires and suspension system as well when you go on that test drive with a technician. Not to worry it's all warranty if they find a problem. Remember it's a forester the ride is smoother than most SUV's in it's class but it's not an outback. GOOD LUCK!

Q: What do you think of the 2005-2007 Subaru Foresters?
I am looking to purchase a used Subaru Forester, somewhere between 2005-2007. I go to school in an area with moderate snow in the winter, and a lot of rain, so I like having All Wheel Drive, which comes standard on the Forester and other Subaru models. I do not need anything more than the base package (2.5X), but I do require Automatic Transmission (not coordinated enough to drive stick). I also looked at a 2005 Honda CR-V which I also liked, and a 2005 Toyota Rav4 which I did not like. Is this a good choice, or are there other cars I should be looking at?

A: It is a great choice. The car has the same approx. clearance of those other vehicles but has a much lower center of gravity, so less likely to tip over if you start to spin, etc. As was mentioned the AWD system on the automatic is quite amazing and actively controls the torque splits. I would recommend some nice winter tires and you will have one of the safest vehicles on the road with the combined traction and crash ratings. Gas mileage will be similar, if not better and the reliability is up there with the Honda and Toyota. Not to mention I think they look better than the little faux SUV's.

Q: Subaru Forester; 2006 or 2007 X or X w/Premium; Pleased? Disappointed? Problems? Worth the price? Thanks.?

A: Good Car and worth the money safest and most dependable small SUV out on the market. You can probably get the '06 w./ premium at a good price. It is a model year old but if you keep it for ten years, that won't matter. I have seen Foresters with up to 400,000 miles on them. Maintain it and it will last.

Q: Does it pay to get an extended warranty on 2007 Forester?
We just bought it and the dealer is offering to extended the standard 3/36000 warranty. I just wonder how reliable the Subaru is, and if I am wasting money on the additional 2/20000. Any thoughts?

A: I'm planning on keeping my '07 Outback forever, so I bought the warranty. I will only put on about 5,000 miles a year, so in 3 years, I'd only have 15,000 miles on the car. I'd sure hate to have something break in the 37th month with less than 20,000 miles on the car and get stuck with the bill. My daughter bought an extended warranty for exactly the opposite reason from me. She drives her Subie so much that she will blow through the 36,000 miles in about 18 months - maybe less. It would suck to own a car less than 2 years and have something break that would otherwise be covered by a warranty. Ask about a few key repairs. My other daughter has an Acura Integra. I bought an extended warranty, because she was going to be 350 miles away from home in college and I never wanted her to hesitate to take the car in for repair. (We went through THAT with the first daughter!) With 75,000 miles, the head gasket blew, which is apparently "expected" with Integra's and Civic's of certain vintage. That was about a thousand dollar repair, which was twice what I paid for the warranty. Here's another scenario... If you have power windows, for instance, replacing one motor might cost as much as the 2/20,000 warranty you are considering. Ask what the repair would cost. One thing to bear in mind is that there are many different kinds of extended warranties and several levels of coverage. (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, whatever...) One selling point of the warranty that I got is that I can have the work done ANYWHERE and not just at a Subaru dealership. It depends on where you find yourself in the country, but there are some places where you would be hours and hours away from a Subaru dealership. My warranty also provides fro trip interuption and a rental vehicle, which my regular auto insurance would only provide if there was an accident. You need to consider the mileage you will put on the car and how long you will keep it and how much risk you are willing to assume. I try to help people assess their need for dental insurance several times a month. It all comes down to the same thing. If you look at "past performance," it is NEVER worth it for most people to pay the high premium for individual coverage. All they have to do is break off one tooth, though, and the whole analysis goes out the window. You buy ANY kind of insurance hoping that you won't need it and an extended warranty is the same thing. Wait a day or two and see what some of the mechanics in this section have to say about it.

Q: Volvo V50 vs. Subaru Forester?
I'm looking for a new car. I've had a Volvo wagon for years--the odometer stopped a couple of years ago at 230,000, and it's time for a new car, sadly. I'd like to get a wagon or a mini-SUV. I test-drove a Volvo V50 2005 with 42k miles and loved it but a well-known publication gives it bad ratings for reliability, which surprised me. I also drove a 2007 Forester with 11k miles and like it, too. The Volvo is a Volvo, and it has a sunroof, which I really want. The Forester doesn't. I found a 2006 Volvo with 20k miles--it's about 150 miles from here. All three cost about the same. I'd like to hear from V50 and Forester owners, please. Thanks. The Volvo is th T5 turbo. I'm also considering the Toyota Rav4 and Honda CRV.

A: I recommend you do what I did, fix up your current Volvo. Price having it restored to original condition, interior/exterior/engine (not at dealership, and maybe at a few different places) Make it cherry again, something you'll love getting into every day. Rent a car for a week, and have it brought back to life. You know its history, you said you were happy with it, why not keep it? Per "click and clack" www.cartalk.com, Volvos will last forever, and will always drive like new, but once they get older, expect to spend about 5K every 5 years to keep them pristine. And 5k will be a lot cheaper than buying new. Throw in a paint job for 2k also, it'll still be cheaper. Go to clarkhoward.com also, he is a consumer advocate/cheapskate, and read about auto maintenance. He calculated that keeping the same car for 15 years will save you about 30k. Also, if you're buying to keep a long time, both the new Volvos and the Subarus will last, but they'll be full of unfixable rattles that will drive you crazy (along w/ all other cars today except Mercedes, which have their own brand of electrical nightmares).

Q: How much is remote start for a car?
So I have a 2007 Subaru Forester...unfortunately (post divorce) I'm renting half a house and no access to a garage. I'm thinking my only alternative this winter until I buy a home with a garage will be remote start...very cold winters here with snow. I don't know anything about it but I figure it will be nice to start it from my kitchen window and have the snow melted by the time I get in! Do I get this done where I bought the car? About how much will it cost? Thanks!

A: You can usually buy them at your local auto parts store and the prices range from about $100 to $150.

Q: Can I replace just the outer shell of my side mirror?
The passenger side mirror of my 2007 subaru forester was recently damaged, but not too badly. Only the plastic casing and the glass mirror were broken. The electric part of the actual mirror were unharmed, so it still works when I adjust the angles and such. Where (if possible) can I find just the plastic outer shell and about how much would it cost to buy/install?

A: I doubt you'll be able to replace only the parts that were damaged. I had a similar problem, where the passenger side mirror was broken, but only the glass (but the electric connection and outer casing were fine). But unfortunately, the car manufacturer doesn't sell just the glass, they only sell the entire mirror, and my car is too new and too foreign to find a replacement at the junkyard, I'd have to get the whole thing replaced, which I've had quoted by both the dealer and an independent auto body shop at $200 (so I have yet to do it b/c I'm still in school and so I'm poor). I have a 2001 Hyundai; I'm not sure how much a 2007 Subaru mirror would cost.

Q: Subaru wheel well packs up with ice and rubs tire bare!?
Has anyone else had this problem? This is a Subaru Forester 2007

A: Take the car to the dealership, this is a problem THEY must take care of. It looks like the wheel well insert or even the alignment of the tire or struts may be wrong, especially since the car is brand new.

Q: Any 2007 new cars good for short people?
Someone asked a similar question but did not get any good answers. My wife is also 4'10" and she needs excellent visibility from all directions. The toughest challenge is that she can never put her heel on the floor while driving. Of course she doesn't want to sit too close to the steering wheel either. She is currently driving a Subaru Forester but she has to sit very close to the steering wheel, which we thought could be dangerous in case the airbag deploys. According to the other gentleman's similar question, an extension paddle would cause some safety concerns. Do you happen to know any year 2007 cars that fit these requirements for short people? Thanks ahead for your valuable answers.

A: I'm provinding a link from Edmunds, which gives you the Top 10 vehicles for shorter drivers, this should help quite a bit. I would include a few others into that group from personal friends, who have a Focus and Mazda3, Volvo S40 and they have good luck with those to fit their needs. Most importantly are probably power-pedals, and tilt telescoping steering wheels, and power seats that fit your search criteria. Happy Hunting :)
