Q: How can I turn off he running lights on a 2004 Subaru Forester? - they stay on when the car is off?
I can pull the fuse but that turns off the taillights also. Has anyone seen this problem of the running lights staying on? How do I begin to troubleshoot it?
A: Some of the Subaru's had a small switch located on the top of the steering column between the steering wheel and the dash panel. If there is one there, try turning it off.
Q: Trying to replace the rear wiper arm on a 2004 Subaru Forester. How do you get the entire arm off the spindle
Someone snapped the arm off, while the car was in the driveway. The plastic ... hub, wrapped around a "cog-like" piece. The bolt, which I THOUGH was holding the arm on, came off easily, but this "cog" just won't budge. I thought it was threaded on, but it doesn't seem to be. Just hate having to go to Subaru. $$$, cause they CAN!!!
Thanks guys.
Going to try again.
A: They corrode and freeze on so even if you remove the nut it will still be stuck there. Spray it with penetrating oil and gently go around it with a prybar. It will pop off eventually.
Q: How much does it cost to fix an "adjuster arm" on a 2004 Subaru Forester?
Just had the alignment done and was told the adjuster arm for one of the tires was "frozen" and couldn't be adjusted. Was wondering how much it would cost to fix and if it would be covered under an extended warranty?
Also, is there a specific name for this "adjuster arm"? Just want to know what I'm talking about when I take it to be fixed.
A: If you have a Subaru Added Security Gold Plus plan that is still in effect, it should be covered under that warranty. An "adjuster arm" is a vague term that covers a lot of different potential parts. My guess is that if there's a problem at all (the shop might've been trying to gaffe you) they probably meant a tie rod (the linkage that allows the wheel to turn in a predictable fashion) or the adjuster arm can be a component of a brake (usually a device which applies tension to a cable, such as is the case with the emergency brake). If there is a problem at all, it's likely the latter: the e-brake is stuck. If the "adjuster arm" that's stuck is in one of the rear wheels, this is probably the case. The problem can usually be solved on your own, simply by tugging on the e-brake cable underneath the car to disengage it, or, if it's really stuck, by hitting hub of the wheel with a small sledge to dislodge the stuck brake cable. I suppose it could also be a frozen brake caliper. It sounds awful vague to me, more like they were trying to get money out of you for something silly rather than selling you legitimate work. I'd take the car to a Subaru dealer and get a second opinion.
Q: Looking for a mainatanace schedule for a 2004 subaru forester tx?
I just bought the car and it did not come with an owners manual or a maintanace schedule.
A: I used to be a service adviser at Subaru dealersbefore my accident. Please go to a dealer and see if they have an extra one they could give you. Depending on the mileage you should stiil have powetain warranty.

Q: why do I need to have brake pads on the back in a 2004 subaru forester?
A: Well, because you have brakes on the rear wheels, and without the pads, you car will have at least 20% less braking capability.
Q: I just got new rear struts on my subaru 2004 forester. The car now slopes down towards the back.?
Are the struts the right size. If the springs were stuffed surely then the i would have noticed the slope prior to getting new struts.
A: Were there spring pads above and below that they forgot to put back in

Q: does anyone know how good the cobb tuning esc control is on a subaru forester 2004 xt?
A: I don't know what that part is, but, I do know Cobb tuning makes quality products that are tested on in house vehicles. I have purchased their stage 2 performance kit for my 04 wrx and it delivers! Puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel
Q: Whats the best way to boost my hp power and or torque on my SUBARU FORESTER XT 2004?
well i dont want to void my warranty but i only have 2 years left on it so i might be willing if the benifit is high enough
A: How far do you want to go?
Cobb accessport and no other mods at all will give you about a 20hp and 10lb-ft simply by remapping the ECU, which is easily removed with the dealer being none the wiser. Here's a dyno of a stg 1 XT http://www.cobbtuning.com/images_products/2543.jpg The power delivery is MUCH smoother, and the car is much more responsive.
Stage 2, or a turbo back exhaust and the accessport is when your car really starts to wake up with about 35hp and 45lb-ft over stock. You'll notice a lot more low end grunt and the turbo will come alive MUCH quicker.
Even without a remap, a turbo back really wakes the car up, getting rid of the cat directly behind the turbo GREATLY improves spool up. I'm a big fan of having my car tuned exactly to my mods though, it will help with the longevity of the car.
Here are the cobb goodies for your FXT http://www.cobbtuning.com/categories/?id=2480 Above stage 2 is when you start looking at bigger injectors, bigger turbo, change to front mount IC, but imagine TWICE the horsepower on the stock block relatively reliably. I have about 30,000 miles on my STi with over 400whp(I'm at 35k miles right now and put the GT35R on when the car had 5k miles) and it still purrs like a kitten and have had no adverse problems. My friends FXT has even more miles on his GT35R setup with no troubles.
The FXT is pretty much an STi bottom end with different head and small turbo. You can really make them come alive. One of my mates has a similar setup as my STi (GT35-R and "protune" with quite a few other goodies) and he's making about 25hp less than my STi(which puts down 438whp on pump gas which is about 550hp at the crank). Our mods are similar, but the 25hp is explained by the difference in head design.
if you want some better opinions check out the forums at http://www.nasioc.com there are a few turds on the forum, but with a forum of that size it is to be expected.
Q: Has anyone experienced back and hip pain from driving the Subaru Forester?
We have a 2004 Forester and like the car, but both my husband and I have experienced back and hip pain when driving for more than 1/2 an hour. Even our son who is 25 has experienced the same thing.
A: Unfortunately, I had a Outback that had the same problem; I think the seats are the same.
I bought a good lumbar support seat from a chiropractor and that took care of the problem. It was a great car in every other way.
Q: What does the 2004 owners manual say about the octane to use on a Subaru Forester xt turbo?
A: 91 octane premium unleaded (or higher)
Q: best tires for subaru forester?
i would like to ask wich tires are better for subaru forester 2.0xt
model 2004
A: well first off.....completely ignore what kelly just told you. lol that made no sense at all. ok first off what type of climates to you normally drive in......desert, rain, snow, ice. you want to buy something that is beneficial to the circumstances you drive in most of the time. an high performance tire will hurt in the snow. your all wheel drive will turn into all wheels spin. General Tires makes pretty good tires and they are reasonably priced. i live in DFW, TX so my climates are different than most. if you have lots of sun and not so much ice and snow then general exclaim UHP is a pretty nice tread and they stick good. reasonably priced too. www.Tirerack.com. nuff said
Q: Are Subaru's noisier than Honda's?
I just got a 2004 Subaru Forester (5 speed). I noticed its noisier than my 2004 honda CRV (5-speed). Is that normal?
Thankyou all... I am comparing it to the CRV i still own (wife's car). the forester is the second. So i guess the concencous is that its a bit louder (mayber because its an older car than a 2007), but the AWD is a bit better.
A: Yes Subarus are noisier than Hondas (and Toyotas). Hondas and Toyotas have more refined engines and noise insulation. Subaru engineers did not focus on noise as much as Honda and Toyota. They were more concerned with handling and all-wheel-drive technology because management knows that it's not a mainstream company, and that they shouldn't be too focused on doing what Honda and Toyota are doing. I'm guessing that Subaru wants to become more mainstream now and compete with the big boys. They'll be focusing more on noise. Toyota owns a small stake in Fuji Heavy Industries (parent company of Subaru) now.
