Q: How much for a new catalytic converter on a 2001 Subaru Forester?
Parts & labor from a muffler shop in Maryland.

A: Muffler shops have access to universal cats. They are as low as $100 plus labor. Subaru's have a unique shape, so it's a little harder to find. There are dozens of good used ones in MD. Call a wrecking yard and take it to ANY mechanic to have it installed. Keep in mind, they get as much as $200 for a cat for the palladium inside them.

Q: my passenger door elec. windows are not working on my 2001 Subaru forester, what is the most likely cause?
I am using the controls at the driver seat. I am trying to operate them from the driver switch, but the passenger windows don't work from either (driver or passenger)switch.

A: if its both then it may be a faulty switch...if its only one then ther motor windings are broken..not really fixable, just replace.

Q: How many miles can I expect out of a 2001 Subaru Forester?
It has about 81,000 miles now, and I'm driving about 10,000 per year now.

A: I agree with Kerry. Subaru has been around for a long time. I know people who have outbacks, imprezas, and foresters that have over 150,000! and they still whip them around! Your car will last for a while if you keep up the matinenses all that good stuff. Hear is a link. you may already know about it. But best of luck with your Forester and happy driving

Q: I have a 2001 Subaru Forester. It squeaks loudly when I first start it in the morning.?
It also squeaks when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, and sometimes when I go straight. The squeaking lasts about 10 seconds. Anyone know what it could be?

A: First of all, congrats on being an owner of a subaru, to me they are a very relyable vehicle. In your situation it sounds like you have a lose belt, most likely the one on your power stirring pump, belts get lose over time and ware out, this is part of regular maintainance you can tighten it up or best just replace it. A lose or wore out belt will squeal on first startup and turning the wheel, even stepping on the gas peddle(reve up or taking off fast) will cause this niose just take it to a repair shop or do it yourself, it's easy to do...trust me...hope this helps

Q: 2001 subaru forester headlight bulb replacement instructions?
hi - i need some help. i'm trying to replace the bulb in my headlight, and i can't figure out how to get the assembly apart. anyone know where i could see a diagram or get instructions? thanks!

A: Get a Haynes or Chilton manual, and all will be explained, with pictures!

Q: On my 2001 subaru forester, the brake light on the right side is finnicky. It sometimes works and sometimes do
Do I have to get a new brake light or are the wires just loose?

A: This sort of problem is usually caused by corrosion in the bulb socket. Can be fixed easily by removing the bulb and cleaning mating parts. Good Luck!

Q: Where is the rear window washer fluid reservoir on a 2001 Subaru Forester?

A: I'm not sure, but every Subaru I've scene pumps from the same one as the front, under the hood. If you aren't getting fluid it's probably the rear pump.

Q: what other tire size could I use to replace a 215/60R16 tire on my 2001 Subaru Forester S.?

A: If you are using the stock wheel, I think that size is your best bet. There are not many 225 width tires that have the same sidewall height

Q: I'm thinking of buying a used Subaru Forester - would you recommend it?
It's a 2001 Subaru Forester L with 84,000 miles on it and the asking price is $10,300. Is this a good quality vehicle? How about gas mileage? What about reliability, does it have a lot of repair issues? Any tips on how to get the dealer to lower the price a bit?

A: any vehicle with 60,000 miles your gonna have to have plugs and plug wires tranny flush brake pads just to name a few

Q: How do I find parts to allow me to install an aftermarket stereo in my 2001 Subaru Forester?
I purchased the Sony CDX-GT510 stereo, and am looking to pick up the accessories to install it. I know I need two wiring harnesses, but on www.crutchfield.com, I can only find the one for my car, not the one for my stereo. Alternatively, I could just connect the wires the old way, I guess. Also, how do I know what antenna adapter I need? And where do I get a mounting bracket or pocket? Supposedly the Forester doesn't have a vehicle-specific one. Has anyone done this themselves before and have advice to offer? The price of the stereo was all I can afford to spend, or else I'd pay someone to install it.

A: wiring harnesses are only made to take the stock connector, and convert it to open wires so the colors match to wire it up to ur aftermarket harness, you wont find one that goes directly from the stock wiring harness, to plug into you aftermarket head unit,. Get the stock wiring harness for your vehicle, and some electrical tape, than match up the colors, its only 11 wires, 12 if you have an amp, so its not that hard!! Have Fun.... Antenna adaptors are always the same ( to my knowledge ) and the head unit should have the correct plug, speaking of that 13 wires if you have power antenna :))

Q: Why does Subaru Forester's oil come out black?
I have a 2001 Subaru Forester. I change the oil every 3000 miles even though I use a full synthetic. I do the same with my Toyota Corolla. The used oil from the Corolla (85,000 miles) is always clear amber, and looks good enough to re-use. The used oil from the Sube is dark, nearly opaque, nearly black. It's been that way since day one. The car has only 45,000 miles on it. The mechanic explains the difference by saying that "Subarus just burn that way." The car runs excellently, but I wonder if something is wrong. BTW, the air filter is changed every year.

A: As a former Subaru owner, I call tell you that by nature, they burn fuel richer than a Toyota. It is they way the engine was engineered by Subaru to maximize horsepower in a small boxer engine. Some of the blow-by gases comes in contact with the oil in that is circulating through the engine, and the carbon in these blow-by gases causes the oil to look black when draining it during a oil change. As for the oil...........You are wasting your money.............I recommend Castrol GTX 20W50 (especially if you drive in heavy traffic or the vehicle is subject to heavy use.)

Q: When I inflate my 2001 AWD Subaru Forester's tires...?
above the recomended level, my fuel efficiancy (mpg) increases? Sorry I forgot the Question. Why does the MPG increase?

A: THe MPG increases because the harder the tyre, the less rolling resistance there is. BUT, the harder the tyre, the less tyre area there is actually contacting the road, therefore less cornering grip. Also, at speed the tyre heats up, if there is no 'give' in the tyre and it could well pop, which is less than fun, especially for the guy you crash in to. Set them at Subaru recommended levels.

Q: What can I put on my car to make me get better gas milage?
I drive a 2001 subaru forester, and I get about 23 to a gallon. Which I know is good, but when your driving from south riverside to west irvine every day, 23 seems like nothing. Is there an intake or something I can do to my car to get better millage? I take very good care of it, oil changes reguraly and what not. I want to be able to get the most out of my gas, considering its $3.41 a gallon here.

A: the tornado fuel saver is a little device that fits in the intake and costs around 50 bucks. its supposed to boost your gas mileage and raise the power on your car. http://www.tornadofuel-saver.com/
