Q: When the the transmission in my 2000 Subaru Forester is cold, it shifts very abuptly. Does anyone know why?
I have tried changing the transmission fluid and filter, but this has not helped. This problem occurs when the car is cold and on the 1-2 upshift and 2-3 upshift. It really slams into the next gear. If I am very careful, I can minimize it by holding back on the accelerator when I think its about to shift. The car has 108K miles. Any comments on what could be wrong would be appreciated

A: Clutch piston seals are hard - needs soft overhaul.
Q: What's a fair price to replace the clutch on a 2000 Subaru Forester?
I just took my car to the shop and the mechanic says the clutch is bad. He doesn't do clutches, so I will need to take it elsewhere. What price should I expect? Is it better to take it to the dealer? I've only owned this car about a year and a half.
A: $600-700 dollars. The dealer will charge more. Go to a tranny shop, and see what they charge.
Q: 2000 subaru forester cv axel problems?
i have a 2000 subaru forester and it is doing something weird. The right cv axel was replaced about a year ago at the dealership. about two weeks ago it started thumping on the right side, the side that has been fixed. the noise has gotten worse. when you accelarate it dont make a noise when you let of the gas it bangs and shutters. today i had to take it of the road because it got so bad it busted 3 lug nuts. is the problem the cv axel or in the transmission?
A: If you have busted lug nuts, you have other problems. The CV axle shaft should not cause the wheel studs to break. A loose wheel bearing would be a more likely cause and that's even hard to believe! You may have a loose ball joint, or inner tie rod...and you probably should take it somewhere to have an experienced technician look at it.
Good luck to you!
Q: 2000 Subaru Forester and a spark plug wire needs replaced as well as a fuel filter...they want to charge us...
...$250 for parts and labor. Is this as unreasonable as I think it is??
A: Roughly twice what it should cost i. m .o.
Q: where is the turn signal relay for 2000 subaru forester?
my turn signals dont work and need to replace the flasher relay
A: Are you certain it's a relay and not just a fuse? Either way check under the hood
Q: where is the knock sensor on a 2000 subaru forester and is it easy to replace?
A: On your car this is located on the rear of the engine, under the throttle body and towards the left (driver's side, pretty much under where the throttle cable hooks on). It's black, round in shape. Just take the plastic air intake stuff off the throttle body to access, DO NOT remove the intake manifold (totally unnecessary, trust me, I've done a few). Use a 12mm socket with swivel to remove. It is important not to over tighten these, as they can crack. Clean mounting surface well and torque to around 15-17 ft lbs. Don't worry, these are easy to do. Good luck!
Q: does a subaru forester 2000 have an intercooler for the turbo?
A: The turbo forester did not come to the U.S. until 2003.
Q: HeY there i currently have a 2000 subaru forester 79v myoo GT (turbo) now iv blown the gear box in it?
First Quest dose any1 no were i can get a service manual 4 it cause they don't seam 2 make 1.. and also can any1 help me 2 identify the box (Trans type. TY755VB1AA) can any1 point me in the right direct were i can get a new used or reconditioned box for it also will a 2001 sti box fit it r the wrxs the same set ups as the foresters and any other info would b great cheers...
A: Any Suby gearbox will physically fit but the gear ratios will only suit the particular car..even down to the year as well. So youll have to find a gt forester myoo gearbox.
Q: Subaru forester 2.0 ..year 2000?
the father in laws forester electrical light came on. he has been told its the lombard sensors,he has apparently had them reset, but its come back on again? is this the correct name for these sensors, because ive tried googling it and came up with nothing.if any one knows or can provide a link i would be grateful, and are they expensive.cheers.
A: The light is probably the orange "check engine" light, not the electrical light.
The sensors are "lambda" (from the Greek letter "λ") sensors, also known as oxygen sensors. They sense oxygen in the exhaust gases to ensure the fuel injection system provides the right amount of fuel for the engine to run at the optimum air-fuel ratio (known as λ=1).
Q: What is the P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction error on my Subaru Forester?
My wife drives a 2000 Forester with an automatic transmission and about 70k miles on it. Over the last year it has been giving us a bit of grief. It "jerks" on accelerating from stop to go. Sometimes pretty badly. When the transmission fluid is replaced it runs fine for a while.
The guys at subaru say the whole transmission needs to be taken out. I'd prefer to avoid that option unless it is absolutely necessary.
So recently the OBD gave me the P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction error. I find other people on the net have had similar problems but I am having a hard time finding out exactly what this is and more importantly--how to fix it.
any help would be much appreciated. thanks guys!
A: Fuel mixture getting into the engine is no longer within spec. Problems could be anything from a busted vacuum hose, bad sensor to carboned up engine and dirty injectors.
Take it to the dealer for a real diagnostic.
Q: What is the best used car between Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Subaru Forester to drive and stay in Alaska?
My wife and I plan to move to Alaska and we wondering what would be the best car to drive (from Arkansas) and stay a year in Alaska. We plan to buy a used car around year 2000 with about 80000-100000 miles considering that our budget is between $6000 and $8000. Please keep in mind that I am 6'6 and need some leg room for the long ride. Thank you very much for your help.
A: IMHO... For more off road "adventures" the RAV4 is the better option, but for just a regular drive the Forester could be a better car.
CR-V is a great car too, but I personally don't like it.
Q: how does the automobile evaporative system work?
How do you check each part in the evaporative system of a "2000 Subaru Forester", to be sure the system will pass inspection?
A: how does it work?
there is a canister of charcoal (for fume storage) somewhere in your car (most likely in the engine compartment), and that canister is hooked up to your fuel tank (catches the fuel fumes), and the intake manifold on the engine on the other end (somewhere between canister and engine there is also a electrice valve). as the engine runs, the engine sucks air, and on certain situations the electric valve opens the line, and lets the engine suck the fumes out of the canister.
comprende? :)
hope it helps
Q: What is the RMS for a factory head unit?
I have a 2000 Subaru Forester with a factory receiver made by Clarion.
I am wondering how much the RMS is for it so I can determine the degree of improvement by adding an aftermarket receiver.
Thanks for your help.
Seeing that the improvement in RMS is not that much, is it worth it to add an amplifier to your speakers? Or is the difference in sound quality not worth it?
A: usually about 5-15 watts rms per channel...not much...
Q: Why does our car smell badly of antifreeze?
We have a 2000 Subaru Forester and can't find a leak, the gauge doesn't read hot, and we don't smell the antifreeze through the vents or in the car itself. The smell is strong and present when we come to a stop or when we turn off the car, and the smell is coming through a window or open door.
A: i own a repair shop, and probably what your smelling is the car putting the coolant back in to the plastic reservoir under the hood,it may have a crack in it or something that's causing you to be able to smell it,keep a real good check on it,and make sure it doesn't ever get low,but id take it and have it checked to see if a shop can find it,you may have to have to put up in the air,and look at it from the very bottom,of the car,and see if it can be found this way,i have had to do a few of them this way, good luck,i hope this help,s.
