Q: Subaru Forester?
I know subaru foresters connect and play ipod's but do they also play other mp3's specifically the "zune"?
A: Yes they do.
Q: Does the computer need to be reset when replacing the timing belt on a Subaru Forester 2000 manual?
The timing belt needs to be replaced on my Subaru Forester (2000 manual). Is this a complicated procedure for an experienced mechanic (although maybe not familiar with Subaru)? We have been told that the computer needs resetting after the timing belt has been replaced. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
A: Never heard of the computer needing reset although it is a good idea to have the timing on the car checked as the new belt will change it slightly.
Q: What is the squeek in my 2005 Subaru Forester?
I own a 2005 Subaru Forester and lately it has developed an intermitant squeek that comes and goes. When it does squeek I've noticed that as I accelerate the rate of the squeek increases. I have nearly 60,000 miles on the vehicle and I've been told that it may need a timing belt at 60K. Could that be what's causing this annoying sound? What else might it be?
A: If you think it could be the timing belt, get it checked out pronto! If the belt breaks while you're driving, it could royally screw up your engine!
Q: Why is there rust on my 2002 subaru forester?
My 2002 Subaru Forester has rust and calcium-like build-up in strange spots in the undercarriage, around the gas cap, and on the exhaust manifold (among others). I bought it from a dealer. The original owner lived in upstate New York. I live the Pacific Northwest. Is this typical for vehicles in the Northeast?
A: maybe the previous owner treated it more like an off-road SUV than an on-road vehicle. Also, the salt and sand put down in the winter for snowstorms does damage to cars and ages them faster. Maybe the previous owner wasn't as religious about washing the car as you are as well?
Q: I just bought a 1997 subaru forester from a dealer and the fuel pump has gone?
Two months ago I bought a subaru forester from a car dealer and the fuel pump went on the weekend, would there be any chance of getting help with repair cost from the dealer?
A: No. Not unless you got a limited warranty which covers the fuel pump. If you bought it as-is, the repair is your responsibility.
Q: Subaru Forester 1999 security alarm trips randomly?
My Subaru Forester 1999 with factory alarm goes off randomly--especially late at night or in parking lots. How can I fix this or disable it? I don't need the security alarm, but the keyless entry is helpful.
A: I had the same issue with my 98 Legacy... the alarm would sound randomly..first option is to have the dealer reprogram the keyless entry code.. as it may have 'learned' a new frequency besides the one for the keyless remote.. which means any kind of background RF (radio frequency) could set it off..if your vehicle has a shock sensor as part of the alarm system, to sense vibration or vehicle movement.. this could also be overly-sensitive.. and need to be adjusted by the dealer...Worst case.. just have the dealer disable the alarm, and leave the KE intact.. it might take a while to do.. but any good dealer should have a tech who is knowledgeable about this.
Q: Where can I find side window deflectors for my 98 Subaru Forester?
Hello, Ive been looking all over the web for side window deflectors for my 1998 Subaru Forester and I cant seem to find them anywhere. Please enlighten me Thanks
A: japanparts.com
Q: Life expectancy of a 1999 subaru forester?
My mother in law is planning to a buy a 1999 subaru forester with 118,000 miles on it...Its only a 4-cyl. engine on a fairly large vehicle. I am concerned... I am looking for any information i can get on the life expectancy of this vehicle...thanks
A: My family has had subarus for the last 25 years. The cars last a long time as long as all the regular engine work has been done. Our last Subaru lasted just about 400k.
Q: How much could a get for a 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5X?
I have a 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5 X in excellent condition. Bought the car last summer. Has about 7,000 miles on it. How much could I get for it?
A: Why are you selling it? Check with your bank as per the blue book value. Also you can compare with auto trader or car max for prices on line. In excellent condition ask $20,000.
Q: What Type of 4X4 System does the 2008 or 2009 Subaru Forester Have?
What Type of Transfer case System does the 2008 or 2009 Subaru Forester Have?
A: The Forester is AWD, not 4X4. The difference is that AWD cars have no transfer case, instead they have a transmission that drives all 4 wheels (a bit like a front wheel drive car mixed with a rear wheel drive car, the one transmission just does it all). The forester has 2 limited slip differentials that use a liquid to provide a bit of lockup if on side slips. 4X4 systems are designed for use off road and AWD systems are designed for use on road.
Hope this helps!
Q: OK to change one flat tire on 2007 Subaru Forester?
I just found out one of the tires (front, passenger-side) on our 2007 Subaru Forester is punctured and flat. The car and tires have about 18,500 miles on them. Because it's an all-wheel drive vehicle, can I replace just one tire, or do I have to replace all four?
Another option might be to plug the tire, right? Can I do that myself?
Thanks!
A: Just repair it at a tire shop and it will be fine.18,500 miles isn't too many miles.Your tires still have lots of life left in them.
Q: Is the subaru forester a good car?
Looking to buy a vehicle and Looking at the subaru forester, Looking for info on gas mileage and maintenence costs. Is this a good car. Im in construction and would have to carry my tools is there room for my kids too.
A: You'll have to go look at one to decide if there is enough room for you. I if there is, it is one of the most reliable and safe car out there. It also has one of the best AWD systems on the market. It is a true AWD like that of Audi and not a FWD based system like all the other small SUV's out there. As far as gas mileage, it is on par with comparable cars but not going to be as good as a small FWD car. I get 25mpg mixed driving in my WRX wagon wich is the came car with a different body on it. I love the engines the most. nice and torquey.
Q: What experience have you had owning a Subaru Forester?
I am in Australia and would purchase an older model--early 1990s, but I am not certain about when they started the Forester. Are some years better then others? Are they made with automatic transmissions? Are all Foresters made in Japan?
A: its a great car
Q: I just bought a 2008 Subaru Forester from a private party. What should I do to it?
It has 18,000 miles.
Obviously, I'm going to get an oil change right away. However, Subaru people, anything you know that I should do to keep this vehicle running for a very long time? Any specific air filter, oil, etc? Tips are much appreciated, I guess this goes with any car.
This isn't what I mean... I bought the car already, I mean what are things that will make this last longer... Do you recommend using any specific oil brand, things to stay away from, etc?
A: Always use Mobil 1 changed every 3000-3500 miles never use fram oil filters I use purolator oil filters http://www.pureoil.com/
Stock air box is very good so it doesn't need to be changed. I also think its always a good idea to let your car warm up before taking off. Make sure you have 4 of the same tires at the right psi. If you have to change one tire you really need to get a whole new set cause it will mess up your differential if they are different sizes.
Q: Subaru Forester Tail lights and front running lights wont turn off?
I have a 2003 Forester and today came out of the gym and the tail lights and the front parking lights were on. This was strange cause there is no way to keep them on with out the keys in. Looking into it these lights are on the same fuse. I took the fuse out for now but I'm kinda lost. Any help would be great.
A: check the switch and make sure it doesn't have a timer on it,if not the switch may have went out for them, usually they go out and wont come on,but in some cases they go bad and wont cut off, good luck with it.,,those also have a relay that helps work the light ,it might be stuck on ,look in the relay box,and you should see the one marked head lights, good luck.
